WATCH: This is how Hamas terrorists stormed Kibbutz Kerem Shalom in southern Israel
Channel 12 news shows exclusive footage from day of the assault
Kibbutz Kerem Shalom is located just a stone’s throw from the border fence with the Gaza Strip and less than a mile from the Egyptian border, in the southwestern corner of Israel.
Hundreds of trucks used to enter the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom Border Crossing, which was destroyed during the surprise Hamas terror attack.
On the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7, when Hamas launched its murderous assault on the Israeli communities along the border with Gaza, Kerem Shalom naturally became one of the first targets.
Israel’s Channel 12 news for the first time showed footage taken from a body camera retrieved from one of the Hamas terrorists killed during the assault on the kibbutz.
The footage shows the lengths to which Hamas went in order to meticulously plan the assault, including the placement and detonation of multiple explosive charges on the Israeli fences and then breaking through with motorcycles and well-armed forces.
After breaking through the last concrete wall with ease, more than 10 terrorists entered Kerem Shalom without any resistance.
Only inside the kibbutz did the terrorists encounter the local emergency team, which succeeded in killing many of them and holding out until the first IDF soldiers arrived at about 1 p.m.
Only that evening did the IDF regain full control over Kerem Shalom.
The emergency team on the kibbutz lost two members in its heroic battle after fighting Hamas terrorists for hours: Amichai Yisrael Witzen, 32, and Moshe Yedidia Raziel (Rosenberg), 31.
They and their team were responsible for saving most of the local residents from the gruesome fate that many of their neighboring communities would suffer that day.
