Iran: Source close to the revolutionary guards reveals details about the mysterious explosion in the country

Iranian television reported today (Sunday) that 18 people were killed and 800 injured in the explosion that occurred yesterday at the Port of Shahid Rajaee in the city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, stated that 80% of the fire that led to the explosion has been brought under control.
A person with ties to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps told The New York Times that the material that exploded at the port was sodium perchlorate – a key component in solid rocket fuel. His statements align with an assessment from the security company Ambrey, which told the Associated Press that the explosion was caused by a stockpile of missile fuel, part of a shipment that arrived at the port in March.
The governor of Hormozgan Province declared three days of public mourning following the explosion, according to the Tasnim news agency.
The head of crisis management in Iran’s Hormozgan Province told Tasnim that the fire at Rajaee Port is under control and firefighting operations are ongoing.
