High Court of Justice discusses petition alleging LGBTQ adoption discrimination
Three judges in Israel's High Court of Justice are currently discussing a petition aimed against an existing law stating that child adoption is only permitted by married couples of one man and one woman.
The Adoption Law (Clause 3) states that "adoption shall not take place except for by a man and his wife together," however the courts are permitted to grant an adoption order to single parents under certain conditions.
The petition alleges that same-sex and LGBTQ couples are being discriminated against.
Before the hearing, the head judge indicated there was no possibility that the law would be changed by the current Knesset and the court would expand upon the interpretation of the current law instead.
