New US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew narrowly confirmed by Senate amidst raging war in Gaza

Jack Lew was elected on Tuesday to be the next American ambassador to Israel to replace Tom Nides. The Senate voted to approve the appointment with a majority of 53 in favor against 43 against. Lew's confirmation was made possible by two Republicans - Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul, who joined the Democrats and supported him.
Lew is expected to arrive in Israel in the next few days, against the backdrop of the war in Gaza. He served as US Treasury Secretary in the past, is an Orthodox Jew and observes the Sabbath.
