Israel bans website of pro-Iran Al-Mayadeen TV, plans to stop all operations
Israel has blocked web access to the pro-Iranian Lebanese TV channel Al-Mayadeen and plans to ban all of its operations in Israel due to security concerns amid the ongoing war in Gaza, Israeli media reported.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant accused the channel of supporting terrorism, while Israeli Communications Minister Dr. Shlomo Karhi ordered the confiscation of its reporters' equipment and asked the IDF to close the channel’s offices in the West Bank.
As the TV channel is broadcast via satellite, Israel won’t be able to block it but reportedly is planning to completely ban its reporters from working in the country.
The unusual step of curtailing press freedom follows reports that the Communication Ministry and the war cabinet have also considered banning Al Jazeera’s operations in Israel, but no decision has yet been made on the issue.
