‘A visit to friends in difficult times’ – German Chancellor Scholz arrives in Israel
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Tel Aviv on Tuesday to show his solidarity with Israel and hold discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before meeting the families of German nationals who were taken hostage and brought to Gaza by Hamas.
“This is a visit to friends in difficult times,” Scholz began his address to the press after the discussions, which he called “good, intensive and serious.”
“As I said last week in the Bundestag, in hard times, Germany has only one place, and it is alongside Israel,” Scholz added.
The chancellor reiterated that the security of the Jewish state and its citizens is crucial to Germany and utterly condemned the “brutal attack on innocent citizens, the execution of citizens, murders of babies, abduction of women, men and children,” which “freezes the blood,” according to Scholz.
