Young religious Israeli arrested for waving ‘King Messiah’ flag in Sinai released on Sunday
An 18-year-old religious Israeli man was arrested in Egypt on Saturday while vacationing in the Sinai Peninsula.
Reports in Israeli media said the man, a member of the ultra-religious Chabad Hasidic movement, waved a flag with the words “King Messiah” on it.
The action provoked a response from Egyptian workers who demanded he put the flag away. When he did not, a fight broke out, leading police to be summoned.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that the man was released and would be returned to his family in Israel.
