Hezbollah wants to retaliate by targeting Israelis and Jews worldwide, security expert warns
Shadowy Unit 910 is trained to carry out lethal covert operations overseas
The terrorist group Hezbollah, a proxy of the Iranian regime, has vowed revenge for Israel’s recent elimination of Hezbollah’s top leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in a massive Israeli airstrike on Hezbollah’s main headquarters in southern Beirut.
Tal Beeri, a security expert at Israel's Alma Research Center, which specializes in Hezbollah-related threats, warned that Hezbollah could order its Unit 910 to attack Israelis and Jews around the world.
Unit 910, known as the “Shadow Unit” or “Black Unit,” is trained to carry out lethal covert operations overseas.
The elite Hezbollah unit is reportedly led by Talal Hamiyeh, also known by his nickname, “Abu Jaafar.” He is one of the few remaining members of the group's high command, the Jihad Council.
In the Alma report, Beeri emphasized that operatives of the highly secretive Hezbollah unit are carefully selected for extensive operations.
“The unit utilizes carefully selected Shiite operatives of Lebanese and non-Lebanese origin who undergo high-level security training for an extended period of time. Most of them hold various foreign citizenships and documents that help them move freely around the world,” Beeri wrote in his security report.
Unit 910 has a wide global reach and has operated in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. Its members are reportedly capable of carrying out risky terrorist attacks quickly.
"The unit operates in a wide range of areas with pre-prepared terror infrastructures ready for immediate action," the security expert assessed.
The clandestine Hezbollah unit has close ties with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and serves as Hezbollah’s long arm for global terrorist missions.
Following Israel’s elimination of the former Hezbollah Chief Abbas al-Musawi in 1992, the Hezbollah unit played a central role in the terrorist attacks against the Israeli Embassy in Argentina and the Jewish AMIA (Argentine Israelite Mutual Association) community center in Buenos Aires in the early 1990s.
More than 100 people were killed in those two terrorist attacks – still considered the most deadly terrorist attack on Argentinian and South American soil. Both attacks were the result of close cooperation between Iran and Hezbollah.
In April, Argentina's Foreign Ministry formally asked Interpol to issue an arrest order on the Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi for his central role in the terrorist attack.
“Argentina seeks the international arrest of those responsible for the AMIA attack of 1994, which killed 85 people, and who remain in their positions with total impunity. One of them is Ahmad Vahidi, sought by Argentine justice as one of those responsible for the attack against AMIA,” the foreign ministry stated.
In 2012, Hezbollah's Unit 910 was responsible for a terrorist attack on Israeli tourists in Burgas, Bulgaria. Five Israeli civilians and a Bulgarian bus driver were killed in the bus attack, with another 32 Israeli tourists wounded.
While Israeli citizens and Jewish communities worldwide are Hezbollah's main targets, Barry emphasized that Unit 910 has also played a central role in Iranian attacks on Western interests.
"The unit has played a significant part of Iran’s shadow war against the West," he warned. In the United States, Hezbollah's Unit 910 reportedly planned attacks on JFK Airport in New York and other central locations.
