Before ceasefire with Hezbollah, IDF struck 20 targets in Beirut within 2 minutes
Israel struck 20 Hezbollah targets in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Tuesday afternoon.
The Israel Defense Forces released a statement announcing that “the swift and extensive wave of air strikes was carried out by eight fighter jets.”
The targets included the “headquarters, vaults and branches of the Al-Qard al-Hasan association,” as well as “a Hezbollah aerial forces center, an intelligence division command room, weapon depots, and other military infrastructure.”
Prior to the airstrikes, IDF Arabic Spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee publicly announced that Israel intended to target the Al-Qard al-Hasan association, a financial institution critical to supporting Hezbollah’s terrorist activities.
“Iranian funding and Hezbollah’s independent sources of income are deposited at the association’s branches,” he said, arguing that the strikes will “be another blow to the Iranian financing chain of Hezbollah, which uses an association under a civilian guise to finance assets for the storage of weapons, the establishment of launch sites, the payment of wages to its terrorists and the build-up of its criminal terrorist organization, on the backs of the people of Lebanon.”
The operation took place just hours before the finalization of a ceasefire agreement that went into effect early Wednesday morning.
If successfully implemented, the ceasefire agreement would mark the end of Hezbollah’s decades-long presence in southern Lebanon.
It would also enable the return of displaced Israelis and Lebanese civilians to their homes.
During the 60-day transition period, the IDF and Hezbollah forces have agreed to withdraw from southern Lebanon, with approximately 5,000 Lebanese Armed Forces soldiers set to assume control over the area.
