BBC anti-Israel bias found over 1,500 times since Oct 7 - report
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), founded on biblical principles and serving as an essential source of news during World War II, has been exposed in a new report for displaying clear bias against Israel.
The Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday that the BBC’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas war has revealed 1,553 breaches of its own guidelines, including impartiality, accuracy, editorial values and public interest.
Led by British lawyer Trevor Asserson, an analysis of TV, radio, and online content was conducted over four months, beginning on Oct. 7, with AI technology assisting a team of 20 lawyers and 20 data scientists in reviewing 9 million words of news output.
The team found a “deeply worrying pattern of bias against Israel,” according to the report.
The label ‘genocide’ was found to have been connected to the Jewish state 14 times more frequently than to the Hamas terror group, which perpetrated the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
The report noted that even though “Hamas members filmed and publicised themselves committing acts which appear to constitute war crimes,” Israel was associated with war crimes four times more frequently than Hamas, and with breaching international law six times more often.
Senior BBC journalists like Jeremy Bowen and Lyse Doucet were accused of “excusing” or “downplaying” the brutal Hamas terror attacks.
Even the liberal Conservative, former UK Foreign Minister David Cameron, joined the many voices demanding that the BBC call Hamas fighters ‘terrorists.’ While the corporation did agree, in late October, to do so “where possible,” the report found that Hamas was described as a “proscribed,” “designated,” or “recognized,” terrorist organization only 409 times out of 12,459 instances (3.2%).
BBC Arabic was found to be the most biased of the BBC channels, with 11 cases cited of reports by individuals who have previously supported Hamas or terrorism against Israel.
Laurence Julius, vice-chairman of the National Jewish Assembly, has been following BBC Arabic’s coverage for several years.
“They always refer to Israel as a ‘settlement’ and all Israelis as ‘settlers,’ and to Tel Aviv as the capital,” Julius told ALL ISRAEL NEWS. “They talk to Palestinian Islamic Jihad members without mentioning they are a proscribed terrorist organization.”
Referring to BBC Arabic and BBC News, Julius said that both outlets use media personnel on the ground in Gaza who are affiliated with Hamas.
“They always portray the Palestinians as the victims, and never mention the thousands of rockets” fired by the Iranian proxies based in Gaza and Lebanon.
“[The BBC] never talks about the Hamas military casualties but always portrays Israel as militaristic and rarely reports on Israeli civilian casualties.”
“They have also failed to report on all of the Israeli civilians within 5km of the northern border who have been displaced from their homes for almost a year [due to Hezbollah attacks],” Julius added.
“The BBC is the head of the snake – and others follow in its wake. If the BBC changes, others will rapidly follow.”
Julius earlier told The Telegraph: “The BBC as the world’s most influential media company with a global audience of over 500 million including influential thought leaders has a duty to report news accurately without bias or distortion and to explain the context. The BBC has failed abjectly and this is nurturing an anti Israel and anti-Semitic narrative across its network. It has to change.”
