WATCH: Over 100,000 Muslims praying on Temple Mount, chanting 'We'll sacrifice our lives for al-Aqsa'
This morning over 100,000 Muslims entered the Temple Mount complex – known as Haram al-Sharif in Arabic – to celebrate Eid al-Adha. This Muslim "Festival of Sacrifice" commemorates Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael [not Isaac as told in the Hebrew Bible] in obedience to God.
Against the backdrop of tensions the last few days over the Temple Mount – as well as leading up to and during the recent Gaza conflict – chants can be heard: "We'll sacrifice our lives for al-Aqsa." Al-Aqsa refers specifically to the mosque on the edge of the Temple Mount, but in this case employed as a motto for the whole sacred complex.
