Tel Aviv light rail to open after delay of several years
The Israeli Transportation Ministry announced on Friday that the Tel Aviv Red Line light rail will officially open on Aug. 18, 2023.
Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced the ministry had received all approvals needed to begin train service. Earlier this year, oversight of the metro was transferred to the National Transportation Authority.
The Tel Aviv Red Line was scheduled to open in 2022 but was delayed due to safety issues.
In the coming years, it will be joined by two other lines, the Green Line and the Purple Line. Completion of those lines is anticipated for 2032.
