Report: Lapid to inaugurate diplomatic mission in Morocco next month
Israel's Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will visit Morocco next month in order to open a diplomatic mission in Rabat, Axios reported.
Morocco joined the Abraham Accords in December 2020 and reestablished relations with Israel. Lapid will become the first Israeli minister to visit Morocco since then and the first visiting Israeli foreign minister since Silvan Shalom in 2003.
Lapid will meet with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita whom he has also invited to Israel.
"The direct connection between the states and the peoples is a paramount Israeli interest. We will continue to work on strengthening ties between the countries and building economic, technological, cultural and tourist collaborations," Lapid said after a call with Bourita last week.
Israel hopes to eventually turn the diplomatic mission into an official embassy.
