Bennett appoints new director of Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced today the appointment of a new director of the Israeli Security Agency (ISA), otherwise known as the Shin Bet or Shabak.

The director's name and photograph are prohibited from publication until his appointment is officially confirmed.

The new director is 55, married and has three children. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy from Tel Aviv University and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University. He currently serves as the deputy director of the ISA.

He served in the IDF General Staff Reconnaissance Unit and later joined the ISA operational unit. He also served in and commanded many operations in the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria and Lebanon. In 2011, he was appointed head of the ISA operations branch. In 2016, he was appointed head of the staff branch and was responsible for building up the agency. In 2018, he was appointed deputy director.

Bennett said the candidate "is a daring fighter and an excellent commander. I have no doubt that he will lead the agency to new heights of excellence on behalf of the security of Israel."
