Netanyahu condemns discrimination against women in public transport, calls for punishment
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned a series of recent incidents of discrimination against women in public transportation in a statement published on Monday.
"The State of Israel is a free country in which no one will restrict who may use public transportation or dictate who sits where. Whoever does so is violating the law and must answer for it," Netanyahu stressed.
Transportation Minister Miri Regev joined the condemnation and stated that two offending drivers have already been suspended.
On Sunday, a bus driver in Ashdod told a group of girls to sit in the back and cover up because their clothing was too revealing, The Jerusalem Post reported, adding that two similar incidents took place in Ashdod and Ramat Gan in recent days.
