Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned Israelis that the fourth wave of COVID in Israel is "the pandemic of the unvaccinated."
In a news conference this evening, Bennett said that Israel was considering making the COVID booster shot available to Israelis 40 and up and possibly all ages from next month.
Israel can avoid a lockdown if Israelis cooperate with the "tools" that the nation has provided including wearing masks and vaccines. However, with serious cases on the rise and reaching more than 600 today, the Cabinet is still considering whether a lockdown is necessary and if school will open for sure on Sept. 1.
Bennett said lockdowns are easy to call for, but are costly – the last lockdown cost $200 billion, he said.
More than 1 million Israelis have rolled up their sleeves for the third shot and nearly 6 million – ages 12 and up – have had at least one. The population of Israel is just over 9 million, including children.
