Israel’s UN ambassador blasts Security Council's ‘biased’ visit to Gaza border crossing
No notification or coordination of visit with Israel or IDF
Several members of the UN Security Council will visit the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip on Monday.
The group of 16 ambassadors and deputy ambassadors will meet to get a closer look at the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the United Nations' aid activities to residents of the Gaza Strip.
The visit was initiated by the United Arab Emirates, who represents the Arab League on the UN Security Council (UNSC) and has sent significant aid to Gaza, including the establishment of a field hospital in Gaza.
Israel was not notified of the visit, nor was the visit coordinated with Israel or Israel Defense Forces.
According to Ynet news report, three countries declined to participate in the visit: the United States, France, and Albania. All other countries on the UNSC accepted the invitation, which is being paid for by the UAE.
Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan expressed frustration with the visit, saying the UN is biased against Israel and only focuses on the Palestinians.
"The biased visit by the Security Council is a new low that proves that the council cares only about the residents of Gaza and completely ignores the residents of the south and the abductees,” Erdan wrote on the social media platform X.
“The distorted visit of a council, which has not even condemned Hamas to this day, eliminates any legitimacy for its decisions regarding the war in Gaza. This is a disgrace!”
The incident is the latest in a series of examples where Israel has accused the world body of bias against Israelis.
UN Women, the UN's organizational arm for gender equality, waited two months before condemning the accounts of rape and sexual assault committed by Hamas terrorists and accomplices from Gaza during the Oct. 7 invasion, despite repeated calls to do so.
Erdan also recently attacked the UN’s Commission of Inquiry (COI), which is tasked with investigating the claims of rape and sexual violence against Israelis during the invasion, saying the group is “antisemitic.”
"The antisemitic Commission of Inquiry, established by the morally distorted Human Rights Council, which recently appointed Iran as chair of the council’s Social Forum, is biased against Israel in every way," Erdan told Fox News Digital recently.
“Israel has zero trust in its findings and its illegitimate activities,” Erdan added.
Several members of the commission have a history of antisemitic comments and posts on social media.
Erdan has repeatedly called on UN Sec.-Gen. António Guterres to resign over his biased stance regarding Israel and threatened to deny entry visas to UN workers over his comments.
