Former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Knesset Member Danny Danon led a delegation of Israeli lawmakers to Morocco for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conference on Interfaith Dialogue.

Danon was accompanied by fellow members of Knesset, Dan Illouz, Yifat Shasha-Biton and Elazar Stern.

The Israeli delegation will meet with parliament representatives from various countries over the coming days, including from Arab countries, with the aim of strengthening ties.

179 parliaments – including the Knesset – sent delegations to the conference.

“Religion and faith are an important dimension of our identity, values and the decision-making processes of individuals and communities which create connections between countries,” Danon said during his speech at the conference.

He spoke about the “long years of work behind the scenes” which eventually “led to the signing of the historic Abraham Accords that are changing the face of the Middle East.”

“Even now, we continue to work diligently to create close ties, connections and collaborations between Israel and the countries of the region,” he said. “Despite the challenges of our current times, the Israeli delegation to the IPU will continue with our efforts to strengthen these relations,” adding that Israel’s relationship with moderate Arab countries “will continue to develop and grow in the future.”

Illouz, whose parents are from Morocco, told the attendees to encourage their governments to be “on the right side of history” by joining the Abraham Accords.

The IPU Conference for Interfaith Dialogue brings together political leaders, representatives of global organizations and civil society, including think tanks, researchers, and religious scholars to discuss key issues facing societies.
