A young Israeli man recently released from military service was arrested by Egyptian authorities in the Sinai Peninsula late last week after he was found carrying bullets in his backpack.
On Saturday, Egyptian authorities announced they would extend the man's arrest for 15 days while the situation is being further investigated, according to Hebrew media reports.
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was working with Egyptian authorities to resolve the matter.
The ministry also said it is in communication with the young man’s family.
