Iran has 'no red lines' in defending itself against Israel, says Iranian FM Araghchi
Israel reportedly coordinating its strike with US officials
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday stated that the regime has “no red lines in defending our people and interests.”
Araghchi’s comments came via a post on𝕏, where he also threatened the United States for its support of Israel.
“The US has been delivering record amount [sic] of arms to Israel. It is now also putting lives of its troops at risk by deploying them to operate US missile systems in Israel,” Araghchi wrote.
“While we have made tremendous efforts in recent days to contain an all-out war in our region, I say it clearly that we have no red lines in defending our people and interests.”
Araghchi’s remarks came after U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the U.S. would deploy a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile battery to Israel in the coming days, apparently in preparation for further Iranian attacks.
Iran, which launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel for the second time this year on Oct. 1, has been preparing for an Israeli retaliatory strike while issuing warnings to Israel and its allies. Iran said the ballistic missile attack was in retaliation for the IDF's elimination of several Iranian leaders, as the heads of its terror proxies, including Hezbollah Sec.-Gen. Hassan Nasrallah, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Iranian IRGC officer Abbas Nilforoushan.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant recently promised that Israel’s strike on Iran would “be powerful, precise, and above all – surprising. They will not understand what happened and how it happened.”
Araghchi’s remarks suggest that Iran is planning to respond to Israel’s anticipated strike. Following the first Iranian ballistic missile attack on Israel in April, Israel responded by taking out an Iranian-run S-300 air defense system. Iran did not respond to that attack.
Reports in Hebrew media indicate that Israel is coordinating its planned retaliation with the United States. U.S. President Joe Biden has said he does not support an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities, both of which Israel has been considering.
Citing a senior official, Israel Hayom reported that Israel is interested in coordinating its attack with the White House, but that ultimately, Israel reserves the final decision on where and how to strike. Among the possible sites being considered are Iranian military sites or IRGC facilities.
The official also acknowledged that Israel’s strike could provoke an Iranian response, claiming that Israel is already planning its own response should that be the case. An additional Israeli strike following that response would likely come after the November presidential elections in the United States, according to Israel Hayom.
