Iran escalates attacks on US military forces in Syria, Iraq amid rising tensions

The Islamic Republic of Iran has long used its various terrorist proxies across the Middle East and beyond to expand its malicious influence. Attacks by Iranian terror proxies have surged dramatically after the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza invaded southern Israel and brutally killed 1,200 people on Oct. 7 of last year.

The ayatollah regime is reportedly using local terrorist groups to escalate attacks on American forces in Syria and Iraq. The development comes after a period in which Iran chose to reduce its attacks on U.S. interests in the Middle East.

Iranian news outlet IRNA took credit for a recent attack in eastern Syria on behalf of the regime.

“Resistance groups have reportedly targeted a US military base with missiles in Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria,” IRNA stated. “The missile attack hit the military base and the sound of explosions were heard in the nearby villages.”

The term “resistance groups” is Iran's term for its regional terrorist proxies such as Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and militia groups in Syria and Iraq.

Furthermore, the pro-Iranian Lebanese news outlet Al Mayadeen reported that “the resistance fighters [Iranian-backed militias] targeted the US base in the Koniko gas field in Syria.”

Last October, Iranian proxies carried out at least 23 attacks on U.S. forces and interests in the Middle East. The majority of the attacks targeted American military bases in Iraq and Syria.

"We are concerned about all elements of Iran's threat network increasing their attacks in a way that risks miscalculation or tipping the region into war," an unnamed Pentagon official warned at the time. “It’s about Iran and the (IRGC), who use infrastructure, militants, and proxies on the ground across the Middle East to include both Iraq and Syria.”

Following Tehran’s initial praise of the Hamas Oct. 7 attack against Israel, the Iranian regime quickly changed the narrative by portraying its terror proxies as “defenders” of Gaza against alleged Israeli “aggression.”

“Regional resistance groups have repeatedly targeted US and Israeli interests in the region since the onset of the US-backed Israeli war on the Gaza Strip last October,” IRNA stated.

Some pundits believe the purpose of Iran’s renewed proxy attacks on U.S. forces is to increase pressure on Washington and ultimately ignite a regional multi-frontal war against the Jewish state. The rise in attacks has coincided with a time when the U.S. is increasingly focused on domestic issues and the upcoming presidential election.

Some pundits also believe Tehran is stepping up its proxy attacks to strengthen its position ahead of a potential hostage deal and ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

The Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists recently launched a lethal drone attack against Israel’s commercial center, Tel Aviv, killing one Israeli man and injuring several civilians. The attack, which took place near the U.S. Consulate building was the first time the Houthis penetrated Israel’s advanced aerial defense system, resulting in the death of an Israeli citizen. Israel quickly responded by bombing Houthi-controlled military facilities in Yemen's significant port in Hodeidah.

On Saturday, 12 children in the Druze town Majdal Shams in the Israeli Golan Heights were killed when the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah fired an Iranian-produced missile at a soccer field. At least 40 people total were killed or wounded in the attack, making it by far the most serious incident on Israel's northern front, and the event with the most civilian casualties during the current war so far.
