WSJ says Israel agrees to delay ground campaign at Washington’s request

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier today that Israel agreed to delay the ground campaign into Gaza in order to allow the United States to increase its air defenses at several U.S. military sites across the Middle East.

According to the report, the Pentagon is working to deploy 12 air defense systems in the Middle East, to protect U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates from possible missile and drone attacks.

The U.S. reportedly convinced Israel to delay the ground entry until the systems are deployed, which is expected to be completed by the end of this week.

U.S. military sites have come under increasing attacks since Washington announced its unequivocal support for Israel following the Oct. 7 attacks.

According to the WSJ, there have been at least 13 attacks were carried out against American soldiers in Iraq and Syria using drones and rockets.

One U.S. soldier was killed and at least 34 soldiers were wounded in the attacks.
