Jordan announces cancellation of water & energy agreement with Israel due to Gaza War
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi announced this evening that Jordan would not sign an energy and water agreement with Israel.
The signing of the agreement was supposed to take place last month but was postponed due to the outbreak of the war.
"We had a dialogue about a regional project. I think the war proved that it won't go ahead," Safadi said.
A memorandum of understanding signed in November 2022 would have seen Israel desalinate water from the Mediterranean Sea for Jordan’s use, while Jordan would have constructed several solar energy projects, sharing the electricity generated with Israel.
Safadi also told Al Jazeera: “Israel is pushing the entire region into hell – it must bear the consequences. We are doing everything we believe will help support the Palestinian people.”
