Israel’s communications minister heads to Saudi Arabia today
Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi will attend a Universal Postal Union (UPU) conference in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, just one week after Israel's Tourism Minister Haim Katz attended the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) conference to discuss cooperation in the field of tourism.
The visit by Karhi to the kingdom marks the second-ever ministerial visit to Saudi Arabia and is widely seen as a sign of the warming ties between the two nations.
While Israel and Saudi Arabia do not have diplomatic relations, leaders of both nations have spoken optimistically about the possibility of normalization over the past few weeks.
U.S.-led efforts to achieve normalization have resulted in several discussions but little visible progress.
Karhi is set to address the UPU congress on Wednesday, which will focus on sustainable postal services.
