Israel and Finland sign $340 million deal for David’s Sling defense system

Israel and Finland officially signed a historic deal for the sale and purchase of the David’s Sling missile defense system on Sunday.

Israel's long-range missile defense system is able to intercept rockets and missiles at a range farther than the Iron Dome short-range missile defense system used to protect Israel from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket attacks from Gaza.

The contract is worth NIS 1.3 billion (approximately $340 million) and is the first export deal involving the David’s Sling system.

At the signing of the deal, officials noted the defense system demonstrated "high-performance capabilities in the ongoing war” against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

David’s Sling, which was jointly designed and developed by Israeli and U.S. defense contractors, was required to be approved for sale to a third nation by the U.S., which happened in August.
