Hamas ultimatum: No more hostages freed unless Israel releases prisoners according to seniority
Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Mardawi told Qatari TV today: “We will not release any more Israeli abductees if Israel doesn't respect the principle of seniority in releasing Palestinian prisoners.”
Part of the delay in releasing the second group of captives on Saturday night was the Hamas terror group's anger at Israel for releasing several prisoners who had only served several months of their jail sentences.
Hamas had demanded that Israel release prisoners who had been in prison the longest.
The International Red Cross said it was not notified of any delay in releasing captives today.
Israel has declined to release prisoners who carried out successful terror attacks, or commanders involved in the planning and carrying out of attacks.
