Increasingly humiliated in Ukraine, Putin puts Russian nuclear forces on ready alert – would Moscow really use tactical nukes?
Pompeo tells ALL ISRAEL NEWS we should take this threat seriously; Move raises war in Europe to a dangerous new level
Facing international isolation and utter humiliation on the battlefield in Ukraine – ans unable to capture Kyiv while his troops are routed on skirmish after skirmish – Russian President Vladimir Putin has dramatically upped the ante and just ordered Russian nuclear forces to go to the highest alert status possible, the Associated Press reported.
Putin says he is doing so in response to what he describes as “aggressive statements” by NATO officials.
“Putin ordered the Ministry of Defense to transfer the Strategic Missile Forces (this is not only nuclear weapons, but also the Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic missiles) to a special mode of combat duty,” Mary Ilyushina, who writes for the Washington Post and CBS News, just tweeted. “This is the highest form of combat readiness of these troops.”
Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the world needs to take this threat seriously.
“Putin is ruthless,” Pompeo told ALL ISRAEL NEWS. “This is not the first time he has threatened the world with the use of nuclear weapons. We should take this threat seriously and we must remain focused on denying him the space and resources he needs to continue his horrific aggression against the Ukrainian people.”
Would Putin really resort to the use of tactical battlefield nuclear weapons inside Ukraine to win the war?
If so, how would the world respond?
Might Putin even expand the war and use nuclear weapons against other countries beyond Ukraine?
Richard Haass, former State Department official and current president of the Council on Foreign Relations, warns that Putin has just raised the stakes.
“With Russian nuclear forces placed on alert, war has reached a new, dangerous phase,” Haass tweeted.
“Up to now we have focused on the risks of Putin prevailing,” Haas wrote. “Now we must also face the risks of Putin failing.”
“Escalation-broad use of cyber, attack on NATO, even nuclear use-cannot be ruled out.”
