Blasts heard over Tel Aviv after Israeli strikes supposedly target Syria

Syrian media claim that Israeli air strikes hit targets near Damascus early Friday morning

Syrian media claimed that Israeli air strikes hit targets near Damascus early Friday morning while Israelis in the center of the country reported hearing blasts over head around the same time.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the Israeli military was targeting Iranian weapons being developed in Syria.

SANA, Syrian state news, reported that Syrian air defenses intercepted missiles near Damascus and that the strikes were carried out from inside Lebanese airspace.

Shortly afterwards, blasts were heard over central Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces said the blast was caused by a Syrian air defense missile that crossed into Israel but exploded over the Mediterranean Sea. There were no reports of damage or injuries. Israel's warning sirens, which alert citizens of incoming rockets, were not sounded likely because the system calculated that the missiles were going to land in the sea.

Residents of northern Tel Aviv found shrapnel from the Syrian air defense missile.

In the video below, SANA claims that the blast is one of Israeli missiles being intercepted by Syrian air defenses.
