Arab leaders call for general strike and mass rally over Finance Minister Smotrich's refusal to release funds
Leaders of the Arab Israeli community on Sunday called for a general strike next week and threatened to delay the coming school year to protest Israel's finance minister, the Times of Israel reported.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has refused to release funds meant for Arab municipalities, citing a lack of oversight over the recipients of the funds.
On Sunday, the National Committee of Heads of Arab Local Authorities set up a protest tent and 300 people demonstrated opposite the Prime Minister’s Office and the adjacent Finance Ministry in Jerusalem.
They are calling for a mass rally in Jerusalem at the end of this month.
