Mortar shots were fired from Lebanon at Mt. Dov on Israel’s northern border this morning.

In response, Israel Defense Forces attacked the firing zone in Lebanon with artillery.

The IDF released a statement saying, “IDF Artillery is currently striking the area in Lebanon from where a shooting was carried out. The IDF has been taking preparational measures for this type of possibility and will continue to operate in all regions and at any time necessary to ensure the safety of the Israeli civilians.”

Shortly after the incident, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the mortar attack.

The IDF carried out a drone strike on a Hezbollah facility in the Mt. Dov area, including the tent erected by Hezbollah in recent months.

Following yesterday’s surprise attack by Hamas in the south, Israel’s defense leaders raised the alert about a possible Hezbollah involvement.

In a number of places, alert squads were deployed in the field and security forces were reinforced.

Yesterday, a group of Hezbollah operatives approached the fence near Metula on motorcycles and fired shots in the air. IDF forces fired distancing shots at them, after which the terrorists drove away.

Following the mortar fire from Lebanon this morning, the Israel Parks Authority announced the closure of northern nature reserves and parks.

Residents of the area were instructed to remain near shelters.
