Rocket sirens sounded across southern Israel early this morning, with the Israeli military confirming that six rockets were launched from sites in the Gaza Strip.

The red-alert alarms were activated at about 4 a.m. this morning in Sderot, with a second alarm activated just moments later in Ashkelon.

Five of the six rockets were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system. The last one fell in an open area.

In response, the IDF struck a weapons manufacturing site and a military compound belonging to Hamas in the central Gaza Strip. In addition, the IDF hit a military compound used as a naval weapons storage warehouse in northern Gaza.

This compound was located adjacent to a mosque, medical center, school, hotel and police station.

The IDF said the location is “evidence as to how the Hamas terrorist organization exploits the civilian population of the Gaza Strip by deliberately placing its assets in the heart of civilian areas.”

Yesterday, ten Palestinians were reportedly killed in a shootout during an IDF operation in Nablus.

Both Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization threatened attacks in retaliation. The Lion’s Den terrorist group also issued a statement saying they would "strike back at the occupying state."

The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for all terror activity emanating from the Gaza Strip.
