US deploys nuclear submarine in Middle East in further attempt to deter Iran and its terror proxies
The U.S. Central Command issued an announcement that an Ohio-class nuclear submarine has arrived in its operational area of responsibility on Monday.
The announcement included an photo of the submarine passing through the Suez Canal.
It is unclear whether it is one of four submarines that carry Tomahawk cruise missiles or one of 14 that carry Trident-II ballistic missiles.
The U.S. Army has not said where the vessel has been deployed to, but the area of operation is considered to include the Eastern Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
The submarine’s arrival to the region is another move in a strategic effort to deter Iran and its proxies from attacking Israel or U.S interests in the region.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin already sent two aircraft carrier groups to the region in October.
