Tonight on THE ROSENBERG REPORT, archaeologist who discovered biblical city of Sodom discusses why it was destroyed and contemplates prophetic lessons
Don’t miss Part Two of Joel Rosenberg's fascinating conversation with Dr. Steven Collins
"Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven" (Genesis 19:24)
The sin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are not just a myth, according to the world’s foremost biblical archaeologist, Dr. Steven Collins. After decade-long research, he has found evidence to prove the cities existed in the Jordan Valley, located in a modern-day site called Tall el-Hammam.
In Part One of Dr. Collins' exclusive interview with Joel Rosenberg on THE ROSENBERG REPORT on TBN, he described the fascinating journey that led him to the incredible discovery.
Sodom, he says, was a huge city with the most sophisticated fortification system in the Bronze Age. Even bigger than Jerusalem.
How did it come about that this mega city was destroyed?
“It was also the same thing that happened in the days of Lot. They were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building. But on the day that lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.” (Luke 17:28)
The excavations of Sodom led by Dr. Collins and a new peer-reviewed study indicate that the Bronze Age city of Tall el-Hammam was, indeed, destroyed by a meteoritic airburst.
Nevertheless, many people still refuse to accept that the story of Sodom is real. Why?
“People don't want a judging God,” Dr. Collins told Rosenberg. “They want to live by their own standards. They want to do whatever they want to do, whenever they want to do it, however they want to do it. They don't want God butting into their business... But beliefs have consequences. And if the Bible teaches us anything, that's what it teaches us.”
If the story of Sodom is not real, why would Jesus, the apostle Peter and the prophet Ezekiel bother to mention it?
Does the wicked history of Sodom and Gomorrah have prophetic lessons for America and Israel today?
