At least five wounded in Ma'ale Adumim terror attack
The terrorist was shot and killed by an off-duty officer from the Border Police
A man shot and wounded five people in a terror attack near the Ma'ale Adumim shopping mall on Tuesday, according to Israeli media reports.
One of the wounded was in serious condition, while four others were moderately injured.
The victims were treated by Magen David Adom paramedics and then evacuated to the Sha'arei Tzedek and Hadassah Har Hatzofim hospitals in Jerusalem.
The terrorist was shot and killed by an off-duty officer from Israel's Border Police, a spokesperson confirmed.
The officer was on his way to a barbershop when he reportedly heard the sound of gunshots. He went looking for the shooter, who opened fire at him before the officer managed to kill him.
"The terrorist is a Palestinian worker with a work permit, he has been working as a cleaner for some years. We are checking with the police how he obtained a weapon," Ma'ale Adumim Mayor Beni Kashriel told Channel 14 news.
The terrorist was identified as 20-year-old Muhannad al-Mazara'a, a resident of al-Azariyeh, a West Bank town located east of Jerusalem.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Israel Police Chief Kobi Shabtai and Border Police Commander Amir Cohen arrived at the scene.
"I heard the officer who neutralized the terrorist and was very impressed. This is exactly what we want, seeking contact with the enemy, determination, neutralization and quick action... The combination of citizens, soldiers and policemen who defend Israel, that's the right combination and that is our policy in the ministry. To give out as many weapons as possible to the citizens," Ben Gvir said at the scene of the attack, according to Ynet news.
