Netanyahu thanks Saudi Kingdom as flight returns home to Israel after unexpected landing in Jeddah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Saudi Arabian authorities for their “good neighborliness,” as the plane that was forced to land in Jeddah on Monday landed back home at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv.
“I would like to express my deep appreciation for the warm treatment of the Saudi authorities towards the Israeli passengers, whose plane was in crisis and was forced to make an emergency landing in Jeddah,” Netanyahu wrote in Arabic on his X account, formerly Twitter.
“I am glad that everyone is returning home safely,” he added.
Israel and Saudi Arabia have no official diplomatic ties but the kingdom opened its airspace to Israeli commercial flights a little over a year ago.
Commercial flight HM22 from Seychelles to Tel Aviv was forced to land in Saudi Arabia on Monday due to a technical malfunction. The 128 Israeli passengers on board spend the night in a hotel in the Saudi capital Jeddah.
