JetBlue apologizes for in-flight map’s 'Palestinian Territories' label covering Israel

JetBlue Airways in-flight map

JetBlue Airways has issued a public apology regarding its in-flight map, which covered much of Israel with the label “Palestinian Territories.”

“We’re sorry for the concern this has caused. We can assure you that no one on the JetBlue team was involved with drawing or labeling the map of the region and we were not previously aware of the issue,” the company told Ynet News.

The U.S. airline said that the map was designed by a third-party company, and that JetBlue, “after a careful review,” has “decided to switch to a new map vendor.”

“While our content provider works on making this transition, we have also asked the current vendor to adjust our onboard map so that it aligns with the U.S. government’s map guidance for the region,” JetBlue said in a statement. “We are making these changes as quickly as the technology allows."

As Ynet reported, this incident is not the first Israel-related controversy JetBlue has apologized for.

Earlier in the year, JetBlue experienced widespread public backlash when Jewish passenger Paul Faust complained about a JetBlue flight attendant’s “Free Palestine” pin, and subsequently had his flight canceled by the airline.

JetBlue subsequently updated its pin policy, and one of its representatives apologized to Faust on behalf of the company.

“We have reached out to listen to Mr. Faust and offer our apologies for the breakdown in our policies during his flight,” the representative stated in an email to Newsweek.
