Israel’s security cabinet to convene Sunday to discuss Iran threat on several fronts

The Israeli government's security cabinet plans to convene on Sunday morning to discuss possible coming conflict with Iran and its proxies.

As Iran continues to develop its nuclear weapons program, Israeli leaders are becoming increasingly concerned, and are openly acknowledging Israel’s willingness to take action to prevent Iran from acquiring or producing nuclear weapons.

A recent report from the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that Iran continues to amass enriched uranium. The amount of enriched uranium Iran has managed to amass is reportedly more than 23 times the limit agreed to by Iran in the 2015 nuclear deal signed during Barack Obama’s second term as U.S. president (a deal from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018 under the Trump administration).

Just last year, the IAEA released a report saying that Iran already possessed enough enriched uranium to build a nuclear weapon.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu commented on these concerning developments in a recent statement released on Twitter, saying: “I hear all the reports about Iran, so I have a sharp, clear message for Iran and the international community: Israel will do what it must to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear bomb.”

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also weighed in, saying, “The dangers facing the State of Israel are intensifying and we may be required to fulfill our duty in order to protect the integrity of Israel and especially the future of the Jewish people.”

Iran’s continued pursuit of nuclear weapons will also be discussed in a security assessment which will reportedly be held by Gallant and Netanyahu before next week’s cabinet meeting.
