Changing the name of the war: Government Naming Committee meets next week
Names the Committee will consider: 'Genesis War,' 'Simchat Torah War' or 'Return of the Spirit War'
The Government Naming Committee will convene next week for a special discussion on the issue of changing the name of the 'Iron Swords' war that began on Oct. 7, as was reported on Thursday on This Morning with Dov Gilhar program of KAN public broadcaster.
The Committee will examine the following names:
The Genesis War
The Simchat Torah War
The Return of the Spirit War
The discussion will be attended by representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Public Diplomacy, the Ministry of National Security, the National Security Council and Israel Defense Forces.
At the beginning of this week, it was announced by KAN public broadcaster that Prime Minister Netanyahu believes that the name of the war should be changed, since according to him: "'Iron Swords' is the name of an operation, not of a war."
Later this week, the prime minister and the cabinet ministers held a special discussion on the issue.
Netanyahu turned to the cabinet secretary and said that the name of the war needed to be changed and other names should be considered. The secretary replied that the issue could be brought to the government's decision.
Netanyahu suggested the name 'Gaza War,' to which Minister Uriel Buso responded, "Mr. Prime Minister, don't forget that you still live on Gaza Street."
Ministers Amichai Chikli and Amichai Eliyahu suggested the name 'the Genesis War' which Netanyahu said was a good idea. "It sounds great in English, too. We'll think of a name and make a coherent and orderly decision. 'Iron Swords' doesn't sound good, it's not a name for a war."
