Chad’s president arrives in Israel today

Chad’s President Mahmoud Debi will pay a visit to Israel today to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were cut off in 1972, but the Chad president’s father, Idris Debi, visited Israel in 2018, followed by a renewing of relations in 2019.

Since then, Israel has assisted the nation of Chad in different areas, especially in the medical field, including providing an intensive care unit to the country last December at a ceremony in their capital city, N’Djamena.

Israel has sought to expand its ties in Africa and with Chad being one of the largest countries on the continent, it can potentially serve as a bridge for Israel towards efforts of humanitarian aid, peace and security cooperation.

Israel’s present ambassador to the country, Ben Borgel, does not reside in Chad.
