US Navy destroyer intercepts drone from Yemen over Red Sea
A U.S. Navy warship shot down a drone that was launched from Yemen toward Israel, Reuters reported on Wednesday evening.
The USS Thomas Hudner, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, intercepted the drone over the Red Sea but the report didn’t specify whether the drone was armed or how close it was to the ship.
This is the second time that a U.S. warship intercepted projectiles seemingly headed for Israel’s southern shore near the city of Eilat, after the USS Carney shot down four cruise missiles and 15 drones last month.
The Yemen-based Houthi rebels have declared war against Israel in support of the Hamas terror organization and have repeatedly claimed responsibility for the attacks on southern Israel.
