Sirens in northern Israel as rockets and mortars launched, IDF repels terror infiltration from Lebanon

Siren alerts were sounded in Israel’s northern communities near the Lebanese border at around 2 p.m. this afternoon, leading many to fear that the Hezbollah terror organization, which operates out of Lebanon, was joining the war.

According to sources in Lebanon, between 12 and 15 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory.

Israel Defense Forces reported that only one rocket crossed the border in Israeli territory.

Sometime later, the IDF announced it had thwarted an infiltration attempt, killing several terrorists who had crossed into Israel's territory from Lebanon.

“Following the initial report, IDF soldiers killed a number of armed suspects that infiltrated into Israeli territory from Lebanese territory. The soldiers are continuing to search the area. Additionally, IDF helicopters are currently striking in the area.”

About an hour later, there was another siren alert.

The IDF released a statement explaining that mortar attacks from positions in Lebanon had triggered the alarms.

“Following the initial report regarding sirens that were sounded in northern Israel, two launches of mortar shells toward Israeli territory were identified. One of the launches fell in Lebanese territory. No injuries were reported," the statement read.
