Israeli airline El Al stops direct South Africa flights ahead of ICJ ‘genocide’ ruling
Israel's El Al airline company will suspend its direct flight route to South Africa amid a decrease in demand due to the South African government’s hostility toward Israel during the ongoing war.
“Due to a drop in demand, El Al will suspend its operations on the Johannesburg line starting at the end of March 2024,” the airline announced in a statement.
“Following the current security situation, there is a significant decrease in demand among Israeli travelers to various destinations, including Johannesburg in South Africa,” El Al continued.
The suspension of flights to South Africa will free up El Al's aircraft to increase flights to other destinations, the airline added.
South Africa accused Israel of committing ‘genocide’ in its war against the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip, bringing a lawsuit before the International Court of Justice at The Hague and urging it to order a ceasefire.
