Israel confirms strike on Syrian army post in rare public admission
Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday officially confirmed earlier reports that it was responsible for the nighttime strike on a target near the Syrian capital of Damascus.
“During the night, the IDF attacked military infrastructure belonging to the Syrian army in reaction to launches carried out yesterday (Monday) toward Israeli territory,” the IDF stated.
According to a statement from the Syrian Armed Forces, the Israeli air strike targeted positions on the outskirts of Damascus and caused material damage.
On Monday evening, rocket sirens were activated in the Israeli communities of Avnei Eitan and Nov, near the Syrian border in the Golan Heights.
Israel's rare admission, claiming responsibility for a strike in Syria, is meant as a warning to prevent additional attacks from Syrian territory against Israel, which have been carried out sporadically since the start of the war against Hamas.
