IDF fires tear gas and stun grenades at Lebanese army forces who crossed border
Israeli forces fired tear gas grenades and stun grenades at Lebanese army forces near the Israeli-Lebanese border after part of an engineering vehicle belonging to the Lebanese army crossed into Israeli territory in the area of Mount Dov on Saturday afternoon.
The IDF reported the incident and stated that the vehicle retreated to Lebanese territory. Army Radio reported that the IDF bolstered its troops and moved a tank into position as soon as the incident was detected.
The Lebanese army claimed that Israel Defense Forces had crossed into its territory and that it used smoke grenades against the Israeli forces.
Israeli media reported that the smoke grenades were targeted at nearby UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL).
UNIFIL commented on the incident, stating: "The force is in the field to calm the situation, and its commanders are in contact with the parties in order to reduce tensions and prevent misunderstandings."
