‘He’s okay, thank God’ Edan Alexander’s family express relief as Red Cross receives Israeli-American hostage
The family of the hostage Edan Alexander, who gathered to welcome him, was updated on his transfer to the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip. They clapped and cheered in celebration of his release from Hamas captivity after 584 days. Edan's grandmother, Varda Ben Baruch, said, "He's okay. Thank God."
Hamas said it agreed to release Edan Alexander as a sign of "good faith" to the United States regarding its willingness to engage in negotiations, which have been stalled for several weeks.
While Alexander's release was not broadcast in Israel, a picture shared by the Hamas-aligned Qatari news network Al Jazeera showed Edan Alexander to be in better condition than the last male hostages released earlier this year.
In early April, Hamas released a propaganda video of Edan Alexander, only to decleare several days later that it had "lost contact" with him following an IDF strike in Gaza.
The terror group admitted that it released Alexander in hopes of securing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, ending the war started by its invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023.
