Blinken meets PA President Abbas in Ramallah amid anti-US protests
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken continued his visit to the region by meeting the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, in Ramallah on Wednesday.
Blinken was welcomed with raucous demonstrations against his presence in the PA’s capital, with chants of “Blinken out” and signs protesting against the pro-Israel stance of the U.S. Biden administration.
PA security forces dispersed the protesters and arrested several of them.
On Tuesday, Blinken said the PA “has a responsibility to reform itself, to improve its governance,” adding that he would raise the issue with Abbas.
U.S. officials have said they desire to see a reformed PA take over governance of the Gaza Strip at the end of the ongoing war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization.
