Following announcement of Biden visit, explosion in Gaza hospital, Hezbollah announces ‘Day of Unprecedented Anger’

On Tuesday night, following the announcement of the explosion at the al-Ahli al-Mahdi Hospital in Gaza, Hezbollah declared Wednesday to be an "unprecedented day of rage" against Israel and against US President Joe Biden's visit to Israel.

Hezbollah released a statement condemning the “horrific and barbaric crime” and calling for a “day of unprecedented anger against the enemy and its crimes, and of Biden's trip to the Zionist regime to cover and protect this criminal.”

Protests erupted outside the U.S. embassy in Beirut on Tuesday night after major news media attributed the explosion to the Israel Defense Forces. The reports were based on initial statements by the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.

Pictures and videos showed thousands of protesters outside the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, waving Hamas and Palestinian flags. Crowds were dispersed after U.S. and local security used riot dispersal methods, including tear gas.

A short time later, protesters also arrived at the French embassy, throwing rocks and shouting slogans of support for Hamas and the Palestinians.

In response, the U.S. Embassy issued a “do not travel” advisory for Lebanon and authorized “the voluntary, temporary departure of family members of US government personnel and some non-emergency personnel from US Embassy Beirut due to the unpredictable security situation in Lebanon.”
