53 Eritrean suspects in Tel Aviv riots to be held in administrative detention
Fifty-three suspects arrested for participating in Saturday's violent riots in Tel Aviv will be administratively detained in prison until their court hearings, Ynet news reported on Tuesday.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir exerted pressure to accelerate the proceedings in order to prevent the release of the suspects when Israel's Population and Immigration Authority reportedly did not proceed quickly enough.
The suspects then received accelerated hearings on Monday night and were put in administrative detention in a prison near Ramle until they can be heard by a Custody Court assigned to examine the extension of the detention once every few months.
