Biden asserts his administration deserves the credit for hostage deal
In his farewell address on Wednesday, U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized it was his administration that was behind the recently announced Israel-Hamas hostage deal.
“After eight months of non-stop negotiation by my administration, a ceasefire hostage deal has been reached by Israel and Hamas, the elements of which I laid out in great detail in May,” Biden stated.
While stressing that it was his administration that secured the deal, Biden acknowledged that the Trump team was “informed” during the process.
“This plan was developed and negotiated by my team, and will be largely implemented by the incoming administration. That’s why I told my team to keep the incoming administration fully informed, because that’s how it should be – working together as Americans.”
In the press conference announcing the deal, Biden was asked if the credit belongs to him or Trump.
“Is that a joke?” the president responded.
Biden’s remarks came after president-elect Donald Trump said that the deal was a result of his election victory.
“This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I am thrilled American and Israeli hostages will be returning home to be reunited with their families and loved ones.”
Trump added that his team has “achieved so much without even being in the White House,” declaring that “this is only the beginning of great things to come for America, and indeed, the World!”
