In the 1980’s US President Ronald Reagan envisioned a space-based missile defense system, which came to be called “Star Wars.” While the US eventually abandoned that particular project, anti-ballistic missile defense programs inspired by that concept continued in the US and Israel.
One such system is the Israeli “Arrow” system. The idea for Arrow began with Dov Raviv. He had to convince military leaders that the idea was feasible. The US supported Israel’s efforts to develop the system.
On April 14, during the Iranian attacks against Israel, the Arrow system got a chance to prove itself. Israeli engineers from the Arrow project spoke about the work involved in developing the system, and their pride at seeing the system perform so successfully. “We’re protecting our home.”
